A labor of love, these bitters are created with naturally and traditionally grown, fermented, dried, and stone-ground cacao sourced from local New Orleans chocolatier Piety & Desire. The extreme chocolate flavour is complemented by oaky whiskey notes, a bitter finish and light spice derived from cayenne pepper. These work well with all spirits, but we're especially fond of using them with bourbon, rye whiskey, and rum. They're a popular flavour for tiki-style drinks, along with Manhattans, an Old Fashioned and any milk punch.

With hurricanes, flash floods, and abnormal summer heat waves regularly affecting New Orleans, El Guapo understands the need for sustainable practices. Their labels are made from recycled craft paper, they bottle exclusively in glass and hand-dip every bottle in wax to avoid adding single-use plastics to landfill. El Guapo CEO, Christa Cotton, is also on the board of Glass Half Full which recycles glass back into sand to fight coastal erosion in Louisiana.
