Velvet Falernum is a longtime staple item of resorts and bars in Barbados, and today for its use in Tropical, Tiki and Caribbean drinks such as the Rum Swizzle, Mai Tai, Zombie, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and the Corn n’ Oil.
The falernum against which others are judged, John D Taylors is still manufactured in Barbados using the traditional recipe from that island. A textbook falernum featuring clove, almond, lime, and ginger on a base of white rum and cane sugar.
The preffered falernum for a Corn and Oil, but it's main use in conteporary bars is as part of a well stocked tiki backbar, featuring in drinks like Three Dots and a Dash, or the Zombie.
John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum is a tasty back bar essential for making some great cocktails. Taylor's Velvet Falernum was first created by John D Taylor of Bridgetown in 1890 and is considered by many as the original Falernum. Today it is produced by famed rum distiller R.L. Seale Ltd.
