Country of origin: Italy Alcohol content: 32% ABV
This classic Italian amaro is made from a unique, proprietary blend of herbs and botanicals. Meletti's Amaro has distinctive hints of anise, saffron and violet, with plenty of sweet spice, lavendar, and burnt caramel with bitter orange rind. It is both subtly bitter and beautifully balanced.
A delicious and rich Amaro, with beautiful strong notes of rich orange and some cacao, followed by complex herbaceous-ness leaning towards thyme and sage, and a subtle bitter finish. Recommended for lovers of Amaro Montenegro.
Great served neat as an after dinner digestive with or without ice, and a slice of orange. Pairs well with Mezcal in either a 50:50 Mezcaletti shot, or as an additional sweetener in a riff on a Oaxacan old fashioned, or in a K.B.M with bourbon. Due to both the mix of herbs and botanicals of many of its fellow amari, but not nearly the bitterness of its cohorts, it can substitute in for where vermouths are called for in cocktails such as the Manhattan.
About Sylvio Meletti
For over 140 years, the Meletti family have been producing their famous Anisetta liqueur from their own distillate and locally grown star anise. Ascoli Piceno’s combo of Mediterranean climate and clayey soil are perfect for growing fine spices, and the anise has been part of the scenery for centuries. The family use much the same methods as were originally practiced, meaning a liqueur that is far from a mass produced product. Each of the elements are of the highest quality, and the family themselves are a pleasure to deal with. These are timeless, and find many uses in recipes and cocktails, as well as behind a bar.
