Country of Origin:   Italy        Alcohol by Volume: 35%

Cynar 70 is essentially a double strength version of the original, dialling up not only the alcohol, but the flavour intensity and bitterness too. Pronounced "chee-NAR", the name comes from the botanical name for artichoke—Cynar scolymus—although the majority of the flavour comes from the 12 other botanicals used in its production. Of particular note are cinchona, orange, and allspice which are more prominent in Cynar 70 than the original. The more assertive character comes through in cocktails, standing up to heavier spirits and lending more bitter than sweet in comparison.

A medium bitter amaro with notes of allspice, orange, cocoa, cinchona, bitter rhubarb root and artichoke leaf continuing in a long, bittersweet finish.

Pairs well with Mezcal, Aquavit, and Rye. Try in a Choke Artist, Cynar Daiquiri, or Little Italy.

About Cynar:

Cynar was created in 1952 by Angelo Dalle Molle and gained popularity through an advertising campaign starting in the 1960s featuring Ernesto Calindri drinking Cynar in the middle of Milan traffic with the slogan "contro il logorio della vita moderna", or "against the stress of modern life". Cynar was bought by Campari Group in 1995.
