Strong bitter orange characteristics shine through here, with a more medium level of bitterness when compared to Amaro Montenegro. Within the developed herbal characteristics cloves, kola and a touch of smoke pop out along with the orange. Commonly used as a substitute for Amer Picon in regions where it is difficult to find, chief among them being the United States and Canada.
The Ciociaria region of Italy was were the Paolucci family began producing this bitter liqueur in 1873. The name CioCiaro refers to a traditional type of sandal, the “ciocia”, which you can see worn by the woman on the label.
