A few years ago Genevieve started tinkering with making her own bitters and after tasting it in soda, side by side with Angostura, there was no going back. Soon a shelf in the kitchen was filled with glass jars full of fruits, herbs, spices, roots, and barks soaking in booze. She was making tinctures to get familiar with the individual flavours of all the ingredients she was working with and she was on a quest to make the perfect bitters to use in an Old Fashioned. Warm and spicy, not too fruity, and with a solid, bitter backbone.

Small batch cocktail bitters made in Portland, Oregon.

The Bitter Housewife was created for me and my whiskey-drinking friends. We don’t want to be talked down to and we don’t want to be told what we like isn’t “correct”. I don't believe cocktails should be intimidating or that you need a whole new vocabulary to talk about them. I believe in great taste, real ingredients, and fun. It is cocktails after all.

A bright, slightly floral bitters packed full of fresh grapefruit flavor. Use it to add new life to a classic gin and tonic or pair it with an apperitif like Lillet, St. Germain, or sparkling wine.
